[Digiview #6] An interview with ethernetmind

Image
For this edition of digiview I had to pleasure to sit down with a good friend of mine, ethernetmind, ethernet is an  experimental artist that dabbles in many different types of music.  What genre would you classify your music in? hmm... that's a really tough question. I condense many different elements from a variety of styles and blend/mutate them in unique ways. people have described it as "slushtech" and "witch tech cyber slush" but it's essentially occult post-vaporwave plunderphonics. I use the term #NUFLSH which entails all of the above and more. That sounds like a very unique way to describe it Yeah, I'm trying to not be easily pinned down. I can relate to that, I know you always push boundaries when it comes to genres. What type of music did you enjoy growing up? I went through every phase pretty much... first music I ever got into was hip-hop as a child. then I got into punk, hardcore, thrash, grindcore, etc. as a teenager. during my punk phase

[Digiview #5] An interview with Gamor Vapor

Image
For this edition of digivew, I had the pleasure to interview a very talented artist named "Gamor Vapor" Gamor is a vaporwave artist from Pennsylvania, his music is unique. He's also an up and comer in the underground scene as well as a very kind person. Which DAW do you use? I mainly use Logic Pro X -- my tried and true. I've been using it for years (and GarageBand before that)! Though, I have dabbled in some other DAWs to make some music. I know I used Ableton Live to create some of my newer ambient tunes "Solitary Journey" and "Memory Lane" -- it's crazy how using a different DAW can completely change your sound! I agree! It's always good to experiment with different types of software I know your music has a mix of genres, what artists have inspired you to experiment with different sounds? :D yes, something I love to do very much! & honestly, there are so many!!! Hahaha. If I had to keep it on a small list, the top 5 artis

[Album Spotlight #3] VNR-Autumn Compilation

Image
autumn compilation by various artists VNR has released their well-anticipated Autumn compilation, it features over 30 different songs with many different styles To kick off the album you have Marth Daul track "ultra-violence" this track is very peaceful, wonderful piano melody float through you with an ambient sound unlike anything else. This is a very nice track to start the comp One track that caught my eye was b l u e s c r e e n "Décomposition poétique" when you hear this track you already can tell it's created by blue, he has his unique style. Love the way he fuses classic vaporware with downtempo beats and adds his spin on it, lovely saxophone samples lead "Décomposition poétique" as well as mellow Rhodes sounds TWISTΞD MΞNTΛL is a duo featuring ethernenetmind & waavypanda and their track on here is titled "ᚠᚱᛖᛖ ᛚᚨᛒ ᛈᚱᚨᚲᛏᛁᚲᚢᛗ" this is a very unique collab between these two, their sound is very melancholy. [Single Saturday #8] angelshawty - mall curses w/ yamari (prod. yamari)

Image
angelshawty · angelshawty - mall curses w/ yamari (prod. yamari) It's Single Saturday again! For this weeks post we have a new track by angelshawty titled "mall curses" prod by yamri At the start of "mall curses" you immediately hear angelshawty unique vocals, he raps effortlessly over the beat that yamari produced. At times angels voice is manipulated into a very glitchy soundscape, as the beat picks up his flow starts to get quickened. The production on this is something special because I've never heard anything like it, he also just doesn't rap there are parts where his melodic singing vocals shine as well. Throughout the tracks, angel tells a story in his lyrics which I love the most, "walk around the mall yeah I don't give a fuck gonna fall down' is quite catchy and gives off a great vibe.  This is by far one of my favorite hex songs I've heard because it has a one-of-a-kind sound, don't just take my word for it

[Digiview #4] An interview with UNCLE SQUIDZ

Image
Uncle Squidz is a producer as well as a vocalist, he has released over a dozen albums over a long period of time and is now experimenting more with using his own vocals on his new project "Magick Flavor Station" I had the pleasure of interviewing him recently How did you come up with your artist name? I came up with the name Uncle Squidz in middle school, my YouTube account name was Uncle Squid Kid cause of splatoon then I shortened it to Squidz at some point. (Have no clue where the Uncle part came from to be completely honest with you.) As for Magick Flavour Station, there was this spice rack in the cafeteria at the high school I went to call “the magic flavor station” so I stole that, dropped the “The” and spelled it funny. Let's hope I don’t have to deal with trademark issues later.  What was it like performing Live? I am not the best at it yet but I really really loved it. It was great to play my music in front of friends and strangers. Shoutout Walker f

[Single Saturday #7] 𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐘𝐁𝐎𝐃𝐘 (Feat. Angelshawty, Dame/Mandy)

Image
MyLifeMarcy (MajinSwag) · 𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐘𝐁𝐎𝐃𝐘 (Feat. Angelshawty, Dame/Mandy) Hope everyone is having a good weekend, for this edition of Single Saturday MyLifeMarcy is back again with a dope single  featuring Angelshawty titled " EVERYBODY" At the start of "Everybody," a piano sample is introduced right at the beginning, then the beat drops and angelshawty verse begins. His vocals on this track are very catchy and so is the beat, I love the way angel layers his vocals on this single, It gives off a wide sound. Let's not forget about the heavy distorted 808 drums they will blow your mind away. Halfway through the track Marcy's vocals kick in, he delivers them slowly and lets the instrumental ride out while he raps about different subjects. Marcy adds a bit of compression this time to his vocals which are both unique and different but still sound great, Marcy and angel are a duo to keep your eyes on. Can't wait to hear more from them  Connect with MyLi

[Single Saturday #6] C!erra My$t- Thin Air (Ft. Sage Hardware)

Image
What A Sad Life by C!erra My$t This single Saturday features a collab between C!erra My$t and Sage Hardware. At the beginning of the track, you're greeted with a downtempo beat. Then suddenly sage hardware vocals begin, these are his heavy metal vocals that sage is known for. His screaming vocals suit the breakcore beat quite well, this track is very emotional and it's one of my favorite singles from the album. At the end of the track sage hardware switches up his vocals to a more soothing style's accompanied by a beautiful melody, Cierra My$t's production on this single is simply amazing. I can tell he put his heart into this one, from elements of fast breakcore beats as well as an  atmospheric sound that will consume you "Thin Air" will leave you in complete awe Connect With C!erra My$t https://twitter.com/Myst666Cierra Listen to more of C!erra My$t music https://cierramyst.bandcamp.com/music Connect With Sage Hardware https://twitter.com/Sage

[Single Saturday #5] ZMS- D r I n k - アイスコールドコークス

ZMS · - Drink - アイスコールドコークス ZMS is back again with a dope single, this time he brings us a new vaporware track titled "D r I n k - アイスコールドコークス" At the beginning of the track, you're greeted with a funky rhythm, then the dreamy vocals come in. The effects on the vocals are stunning and give the track a special ambient type of feeling, the production defiantly has an 80's feel to it. This is the type of track you would hear at old school r&b club, I imagine everyone would slow dance to it. I love how the track is slowed down to perfection, taking elements from chopped and screwed to classic vaporwave. From the wavey bass line to the amazing percussion, ZMS has outdone himself on this single Listen to more of ZMS music here https://soundcloud.com/zm-sage_white-gucci   Connect with ZMS here https://www.instagram.com/z.m.s.___/ -VDMR

[Single Saturday #4] MyLifeMarcy- KRIS

MyLifeMarcy (MajinSwag) · 𝐊𝐑𝐈𝐒 If you're a fan of hex music then you know every track an artist in this genre releases is very unique, Marcy is no different. This track has elements of hex, but mylifemarcy puts his own spin on it, the entire track is led by distorted house drumbeat that is heavily compressed which will leave you an energetic mood. The instrumental makes me feel like I'm at a industrial rave, Marcy vocals are bit crushed as well like many hex'd songs. The crushed vocals blend well with the distortion, if you enjoy music with different elements then you'll love KRIS. I had the pleasure of chatting with him about various topics a few days ago How would you describe your music to a first time listener? Wow...I have to keep this simple I am a hip hop hauntologist, and Emcee of time and nostalgia. We can search our past together with this music I create-- comb for our condition through the archives and the songs. Plunderphonics for Pragmatic Social Change What were your favorite albums growing up? Before the 6th grade, I did not have a portable music player, just a Sony anti-skip portable CD player with me and the CDs I could pull out of my dad's car. The albums I remember having been Caress of Steel by Rush, Momentary Lapse of Reason by Pink Floyd, and Music For The Masses by Depeche Mode...but the one I listened to the most was a momentary lapse of reason I did not realize how much t

[Album Spotlight #2] 怖い時間 (Sunset Grid Compilation)

Image
怖い時間 by Sunset Grid Today is one of my favorite holidays, Halloween! To kick off this spooky day we have a new album/ compilation by Sunset Grid. Each track on this album has a unique sound,  the opening track "ホテル shampoo - Monster Mush" begins with an eerie gong sample accompanied by vocals that you would hear in a demonic realm. Then the tempo starts to quicken and it gets more dancer, this is defiantly a track you would play at a costume party. There are more dark ambient sounds on this comp such as Vylter track "Owl Mage" that captures an amazing atmosphere sound she's known for b l u e s c r e e n track "D҉Is҉c҉o҉ ҉M҉a҉s҉s҉a҉c҉r҉e҉" gives off trip-hop vibes, it features very dark elements. From layered vaporware drums to trumpet samples and epic synths that you hear throughout the track. It will leave you horrified  The stand-out song on this comp is "spooky action" by "Ceramic" this track reminds me of watching

[Album Spotlight #1] Vylter- When It's Cold Enough To See The Melody

Image
When It's Cold Enough To See The Melody by Vylter Vylter has just recently released a 4 track project titled "When It's Cold Enough To See The Melody" via vacuum noise records and it's simply amazing. The first track to kick off the album is titled "de tu Al ma ma" the ambiance hits you right away, breathtaking ambient pads that could melt even the darkest of hearts. Throughout the experience, you can faintly hear a vocal sample that is delayed and is heavy reverbed to give it a psychedelic sound.  "Untransliterated" is one of the more drone style tracks and one of my favorites from the album. Beautiful layers of sounds and immersing soundscapes that will leave you in a trance for hours. This is defiantly a track to listen to while meditating or sleeping "nay to you I say" is very upbeat, starting with an acoustic guitar piece accompanied by a vocal chop that i

[Single Saturday #1] ManChesterSpeas OTE ft. Centaur Sapien prod. Fidelity Heart Cult

ManChesterSpeas · OTE ft. Centaur Sapien prod. Fidelity Heart Cult Single Saturday will be a special blog post every Saturday, kicking off this new topic we have a new single that was released a few weeks ago titled "OTE" from ManChesterSpeas featuring Centaur Sapien and the production is done by the very talented  Fidelity Heart Cult. OTE starts with a euphoric melody but when the instrumental begins it gets very heavy, ManChesterSpeas is the first verse you hear. I'm sure everyone can relate to being "on the edge"  ManChesterSpeas rap's about it effortlessly, he paints an image in your head about how life can be a struggle. As the beat builds up ManChester rap's about different things such as "black bodies near my bed white noise in my head" "my guts have been giving me shit" as well as one of my favorite lyrics from this track "I'm the potent in the aftermath" He has a one of a kind style and it shines here on this

So what is Digital Gaze?

Digital Gaze is a blog i've had on the back burner for a few years now, i've always wanted to start a blog  to share my thoughts on different music related topics. My goal is to give artists a platform they deserve, which I know is hard at times. Stay safe out there everyone ❤ Until next time ~VDMR
