[Album Spotlight #5] Thumb & Kid 1 by emptybrother7 & MJC

Thumb & Kid 1 is a beat tape by emptybrother7 & MJC, this project dabbles in many genres different genres and is very experimental. I had the pleasure of listening to this masterpiece early and loved every track, here are my thoughts

"Caddy Trap" is the first track on the album and its bangs, lush piano synths fill the air with catchy drum percussion, the ambiance is so uplifting on this one too. Caddy trap would be something you'll bump when you're cruising down a highway at night,

The second track in this album is titled "Soul In Lofi" the beat starts with a chopped r&b vocal sample, then suddenly you're introduced to a crunchy lofi beat style. You can faintly hear the vocal chops through the duration of the beat, which play into the melody very well. The 808 bass reminds me of early future bass sounds.

"In Search Of Silence"  is very unique,  from the start you're greeted with a distorted guitar, ambient pads are also used in this track as well as creating a mind-blowing listening experience. The synth plucks are a nice addition to the instrumental and give it that early 90's boom-bap feel

"7ds" is where this project starts to pick up the pace, this track is highly psychedelic. When I was listening to this I zoned out through the whole thing, the guitar and drums on this are mesmerizing and put me in a trance. I love the simplicity on "7ds" it's a star-studded track

"Pivot" This track starts right away with blast beats and heavy synth leads, it kinda gives off a dark vibe in the sense with the detuned instruments. "pivot" is a track you would hear in a video game where the player is racing down a dark tunnel of the abyss

"Sword Swallower" is one of the longer tracks on the album and gives off crazy vibes, it makes you feel like you're underwater in a submarine being submerged lower and lower. From the reverb drums and delay effects on the instruments, Sword Swallower will take you on a trip to the darkest parts of the seas

"Rain Shower" really touched my heart, it's very melancholy. The tempo is very slow and eerie, I could picture myself going on a trip to a rain forest listening to this and embracing every single moment of the time. This track has Lovely piano Rhodes that captures the sad type of vibe "Rain Shower" gives off

"Hold up" is one of the most uplifting tracks on the album, beautiful acoustic guitar samples are present in this one. This instrumental would be best listened to at a cafe while you drink a cup of coffee on a cold winter night while writing a novel. You will fall in love with the lofi vibe Hold Up gives off

The next track is titled "Different Levels" this is by far my favorite track on this album, you can tell the artist was inspired by dubstep and early video game music. Wobbly basslines and trip-hop drums are present in Different Levels, it hyped me up so much I couldn't help but dance while I was listening. Very solid track

The final track from the album is titled "Riders Of The Night" It features "Ji Sharp" it's the best closing track to this amazing album, in my opinion, the guitar sounds like something out of an 80's movie. The drums are layered and panned left and right to create a heavy atmospheric sound, Ji Sharp did an incredible of shredding his guitar. These are both two talented coming together to create some magical
